
Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, Head of the Institute of Biomaterials at FAU and member of the TRR225 board, has been awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (UNCuyo) (https://www.uncuyo.edu.ar/ ) in his hometown of San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina.
The conferment ceremony took place on March 18, 2026, at the Faculty of Applied Sciences for Industry (Facultad de Ciencias Aplicadas a la Industria, FCAI), (https://fcai.uncuyo.edu.ar/ ). The event was attended by the Rector of the University, Prof. Esther Sánchez, the Vice-Rector, Prof. Gabriel Fidel, the Dean of FCAI, Prof. Augusto Roggiero and the whole academic community of FCAI.
Prof. Boccaccini was honoured in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements and his significant contributions to the field of materials science and engineering, particularly in biomaterials, as well as his continuous support for the development of academic activities at FCAI.
The ceremony marked a historic moment, as it was the first time that the Doctor Honoris Causa distinction has been conferred in the city of San Rafael.
On this occasion, Prof. Boccaccini stated:
“I am delighted and deeply honored to receive the Doctor Honoris Causa from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in my hometown, San Rafael, Mendoza. This Dr. h.c. has a very special meaning as in a way it closes a circle that started with my first educational steps in the primary and secondary school as well as my first years in University in San Rafael. It was a very emotional ceremony with family and friends in attendance. I am sincerely grateful to the University authorities, to my colleagues at FCAI and to all members of the University for this very special recognition. I look forward to further strengthening collaborations and engagement with UNCuyo’s academic community”.
