By 8. May 2025September 23rd, 2025News

On May 8, 2025, the Center of Polymers for Life proudly opened at the Hubland South Campus of the University of Würzburg – a landmark in research and education. At CPL, scientists from chemistry, medicine, materials science, biology, computer science and engineering collaborate to develop innovative polymers for medical applications. Tailored implants, artificial tissue models, and new methods aimed at reducing animal testing in pharmaceutical and cancer research will be among the breakthroughs pursued here.

The building will accommodate about 60 researchers and parts of the Institute of Functional Materials and Biofabrication (FMZ), led by Prof. Jürgen Groll, and the Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry (MMC), led by Prof. Lutz Nuhn. With nearly €30 million invested, this building is more than just a state-of-the-art research center – it’s a place where technical excellence meets societal impact, shaping the future of science in Würzburg.

The press release from the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg on the opening of the CPL research building can be found here.
