The University of Bayreuth Faculty of Engineering, Department of Biomaterials offers 1 PhD student position (f/m) in Tissue Engineering and Bioprinting (salary equivalent to TV-L 13) in the research group of Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering
What we offer and project description:
We are currently developing interdisciplinary research projects focused on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The project cluster of the SFB-Transregio 225 program with two other project partners from Würzburg and Erlangen comprises biofabrication techniques, bioprinting of tissue model (skeletal muscle tissue) and development of bioreactor technology (http://trr225biofab.de/de/startseite/). The projects aim to solve a longstanding challenge in the field of tissue engineering, bioprinting and development of functional tissues. The project is highly interdisciplinary and requires the collaboration with researchers from engineering, medicine and chemistry. The application oriented research on development of muscle tissue will be performed in laboratories located at the Department of Biomaterials in both universities of Bayreuth and Erlangen and Chair of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, University Hospital Würzburg.
As part of the employment an opportunity for scientific qualification (doctorate) is given.
Your profile and your tasks:
The ideal candidates should have a Master Degree in one of the Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Polymer, or Biology. Basic knowledge in cell culture and polymer chemistry is beneficial. Your main task will be the preparation of hydrogel bioink, rheology and other related materials characterization, bioprinting and cell seeding and further analysis which has to be in close contact with other project partners. You will get training in bioprinting and microfabrication techniques. You will be introduced to state-of-the-art microscopy methods (optical, scanning, atomic force and fluorescent confocal microscopy. Further you will get training in writing publication for internationally renowned journals and the preparation of oral contributions for national and international conferences. Different workshops and symposiums will be organized by SFB-Transregio 225 program for exchanging ideas on biofabrication techniques and presenting progress of the projects.

Contract period: 3 years
Salary: 67% of E13 TV-L
